GMC Terrain and Acadia Getting a Sales Boost

Just because gas prices have been on the rise, doesn't mean the desire for SUV type vehicles has gone to the wayside. Enter the latest upgrades to GMC's popular CUV and small-SUV lineup that boast impressive gas mileage, safety features, cargo space and styling. In fact, more and more people are buying vehicles like the GMC Terrain and GMC Acadia. That's right, sales for both are up this year, with more than half of buyers switching from non-GM or non-domestic brands.

According to Brian Sweeney, U.S. VP of GMC Sales and Service, "The Acadia and Terrain are industry leaders in both design and technology...Consumers are taking notice, as evidenced by each model's sales increase through the first 11 months of 2011."1 How much? Well, the Acadia saw an 18.6-percent increase, and the Terrain got a sales jump of 47.3 percent.

GMC has been working hard to perfect both of these vehicles. It shows, too, with their latest iterations having enough power to cart around all of your stuff while still getting impressive gas-mileage and keeping your family as safe as possible.

For example, the GMC Acadia is the bigger and most powerful of the two. There are enough seats for seven or eight passengers, but the second and third rows of seats can get stowed away for 115-cubic-ft of cargo space. Both the IIHS and the NHTSA gave it their top safety ratings, thanks in part to the curtain airbags and standard stability control, as well as additional options like the rearview camera for increased visibility. Upgrade to the Denali trim and you'll get a DVD player, mahogany trim, heated and cooled front seats, leather upholstery and USB/Bluetooth connectivity. To top it all off, the GMC Acadia was recently honored by ALG for having the lowest cost of ownership for a crossover.

The GMC Terrain is a bit younger, the company first introduced it back in 2009, and it's only gotten better since then. And in case the 182-hp, four-cylinder, 2.4-liter, direct-injected engine isn't quite powerful enough for you, it's also available in a 264-hp, 3.0-liter V6. It won't hurt your gas budget, either, with an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway. The Terrain has also been recognized by the IIHS (Top Safety Pick) and the NHTSA (four-star rating), and it comes standard with a rearview camera as well as curtain airbags and stability control. And this year, the industry's first single-camera crash avoidance system will debut on the Terrain.

So what's this all mean? Well, it doesn't matter which GMC you choose, you'll be making a good choice. At least, that's what we think down at Gurley Leep GM. We're always happy to show you why, too.
